‘Ronin’s Honour’ was my first game as an art director, and first project for Play’n GO.
As my first game after joining, I was able to dedicate all of my time to it, rather than being spread across the multiple simultaneous titles that I’d quickly work up to.
Inspired by a combination of anime, manga, traditional Japanese sumi-e illustrations and Street Fighter IV, I’m really proud of how this turned out. Art, audio and game design came together to create a highly compelling package, with a full Japanese voice over as the cherry on top to really enhance the anime x fighting game aesthetic.
The biggest challenge was guiding multiple artists to consistently execute on such a unique and challenging style, but they absolutely nailed it, with their illustrations then painstakingly brought to life by the outstanding animators. I really hope I can make a sequel one day.
